Last Camping Trip of 2010

In my life (Part 2 as I call post-banding), I choose to do more fun things for me and the family. On Friday, after seeing the weather forecast for the long weekend, I decided that we would go camping! Actually was our first and only trip for the 2010 year. We have a little pop-up camper that we keep well stocked and pretty much ready to go at any time, so it isn't hard to usually go at the last minute.

  • Friends for kids - check
  • Puppy stuff - check (this would be a big test here....)
  • Wood for fire - check
  • Really easy food (good choices for Mommy) - check
We were set!! Got an early start on Saturday, stopped at Mickey D's for kid's "nourishment" on the way and we were on our way. Having older kids is great and extra kids, even better! We were set up in record time and the kids were off and exploring.
Not knowing how Miss Abby (9 week old puppy) was going to do with all this "newness" was a big concern. I swallowed hard when I noticed on the loop where we were, there were no fewer than a dozen big doggies! All who would probably consider Abby a little snack! Happy to report that Abby is a home body, she stays close to Mommy and loves to hike! The girls and I went on a long hike yesterday and brought Abby. She was great! Stayed really close, came back when called and went for long time. At a break, we sat down and Abby plunked down and fell asleep! I carried her for a while and let her rest up.

Saturday night was a cold one! We had a big fire complete with marshmallows. I am fairly sure that it was in the low 30's. The sites at Stony Brook have no electric so the camper heater couldn't be used. I was so happy to have a little puff ball who wanted to snuggle down at the bottom of my sleeping bag.

These are the fun times that I hope my kids will remember when they are older, I know I will think back on them and smile. This "Part 2" of my life will be dedicated to having and making memories.

  1. Oh, I do love camping. When I was a kid we camped all the time. Now, my husband and I have a 29ft. travel trailer and we have a blast. We have traveled across the country with it too. We are headed to Daytona Beach, FL for Christmas and we are staying at the KOA. I can't wait. You are creating great memories for your kids. They will remember these times with you.
